This module will cover the basics of developing a research question that will guide your proposal creation for the rest of the semester.

Sheppard, Ch. 3, "Developing a Research Question"

This chapter covers how to write a research question as well as high level overviews of qualitative versus quantitative research.

Sheppard, Ch. 4, "Measurements and Units of Analysis"

This chapter covers variables as well as reliability and validity.

Bhattacherjee, Ch. 4, "Theories in Scientific Research"

This chapter connects directly to the the course objectives and helps you understand what makes a good theory. It also provides examples of theories for you to see.

Scribbr, "Developing Strong Research Questions"

This page provides practical advice on how to write a research question. Definitely watch the 4.5 minute video. There is also a quiz to check for understanding that I strongly recommend. Note: Scribbr offers paid editing services, but this course is only using their free content.

Provides a thorough walkthrough of variable types and scales.

DeCarlo, Ch. 8, "Creating and Refining a Research Question"

DeCarlo provides an overview of writing a good research question with some specific tips and critiques as well as explanations that augment Sheppard's content.

Note the unique due date. Use this forum to share and give feedback on one another's research question. Title your post with your research question and in the body of your post ask for any specific feedback you would like from your peers. Give feedback to your classmates and integrate their feedback when you submit your research question.
